Types of ByYourSide Coaching
Basic Coaching (Most Popular)
We work beside teachers in grades Pre-K to 12th grades. Our instructional coach spends at least three full days with one teacher or administrator at a time. Coaches learn the teacher's instructional strengths and model strategies to enhance their skills.
We coach in areas of:
- How to set up a classroom and why it's important
- How to establish routines and expectations and why to have them
- How to engage students
- Setting up and managing small group instructions for both differentiated and intervention instruction
- How to plan and implement rigorous, explicit instruction which is aligned to CCSS.
Advanced Coaching
We support grade level or department level groups through coaching. BYS advanced coaches will spend the day going into classrooms, then facilitate group discussions; foster teamwork, in building one another's strengths, as well as, the use of data to drive instruction. Through this process, we encourage growth in taking instruction deeper, wider, and in being more rigorous.
Professional Development
Considering our teachers have a wide range of teaching experiences, we are able to offer a variety of professional development seminars. We are able to curate effective trainings to fit your teachers' specific needs.
Subject-Concentrated Coaching (Elem.)
The title to this coaching says it all! We are concentrating our coaching to improve instruction in a specific subject area and group (grade level) of educators. Coaches meet with a group and guide them through a deep dive into a particular subject. We breakdown new and existing resources (print and digital resources). We focus on the teacher’s resources, classroom materials, and student activities. Coaches highlight effective teaching strategies and engagement in order to support teacher implementation and management. BYS coaches will work with a group to improve or expand teaching in areas of subjects, such as Writing (a huge need and request among teachers), Science (STEM), Math, Reading, Social Studies, etc.
The structure of this approach requires that we coach in ½ days segments at times. therefore, we contract for ½ day sessions with a minimum of four ½ days or two full days.
What could it look like:
- Meet with PLC. or group during specials and planning time
- Meet in the classrooms during a one-half day while specific subject is being taught
- Coach through observation, modeling, or co-teaching
- Meet with teachers for follow-up conversation, observations discussions, and planning
Coaching for Administrators
We are able to provide support for new or experienced principals. Our knowledgeable coaches with administration experience will provide side-by-side coaching to support the principal with managing budgets, scheduling, supporting school staff, campus culture, and much more.
Library Coaching
We offer support to librarians and library aids with:
- Library environment (furniture placement to support behavior management and material accessibility
- Student behavior/engagement and lesson engagement
- Book sharing automation
- Teaching students the Dewey decimal system
- Organizing by special sections (ex. AR, Primary & Upper grades, & Subject)
- Supporting classroom instruction in CCSS
- Creating a library PLC (teamwork)

We are looking for retired educators, administrators, and librarians that are passionate about children in New Mexico. Coaching for BYS is part-time and is considered contracted work.
